Ludere

Ludere is a stationary Bluetooth home speaker concept I designed as part of a university course. The design research included creating a persona based on myself, as well as employing the PPE framework: Perceptual Product Experience. My goal was to evoke a feeling of nostalgia in this product by making it reminiscent of the persona's youth in the early 2000s.

Form Analysis

Before ideating, thorough research was conducted to clarify the project's goals and the strategies to achieve them.

Form Definition

Based on the image boards created during the research phase, I had a clear vision of the product's desired expression. Most sketches featured circular shapes, as I believed this shape symbolized serenity and unity—qualities I wanted to integrate with the product's overall expression.

Extensive exploration was conducted on the design of the legs/supports for this circular shape. I finally settled on a design that satisfied me: two supports emerging from the back, with the third contact point being the circle itself.

Final Result

The selection of materials and functionality of Ludere captures the essence of a specific design era in home electronics, particularly sound systems. This era is often overlooked in my opinion, not old enough to be considered charming like LP players, yet not modern enough to be deemed contemporary.

I refer to this period as a 'forgotten grey-zone of design.' With Ludere, I've resurrected this design era, drawing not only from my persona but also serving as a reminder for all of us to appreciate the innovations of yesterday, rather than constantly seeking the latest advancements.
